Marie Callender’s – Milpitas, CA

Usually, I wouldn’t want to put a restaurant such as this one on the site, but I thought that I’d make an exception this time.  Since it was pretty late that night, my sister and I went to Marie Callender’s for a late dinner.

We ordered a Chicken Tenders appetizer, which came in a “cup” that was stuffed full of fries.  Sort of a different plating style than I’m normally accustomed to seeing.  While I like it, it does make it a little difficult to get to the fries without disturbing the stack of chicken tenders.

Main entrees ordered that night was the Chicken Pot Pie (my Grandpa’s favorite) and the Baked Cavatappi Pasta and Caesar salad combo.  I quite enjoy the chicken pot pie as well, especially the nice flaky crust on top.  The only thing I wish they would change about this dish is to include a pie crust for the bottom portion of the pie as well (instead of just having flaky crust on top).

I was a little surprised by the Cavatappi as it was pretty good good (for $5.99).  I believe it didn’t have any meat as well, but the cheese was nice and melted.  Caesar salad was pretty fresh, they went a little heavy with the dressing (I suspect maybe it wasn’t tossed well enough).

Mil’s Diner – Milpitas, CA

Ah.  Breakfast, American Style.  This particular restaurant had decent breakfast items, butI was a little put off by the eggs.  I ordered Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs, my sister had Sausage Biscuits and Gravy w/ Eggs, we also had a half order of French Toast as well.

Everything was pretty good, the eggs were the only things that I was kinda grossed out by.  I don’t know about everyone else, but I prefer to have my eggs well done…  I don’t like them runny and slimy.  I oredered sunny side up eggs, and when they arrived on my plate they were barely halfway done.  It looked like I had 3 raw eggs sitting on my plate.  I was shocked.  Speechless.  I thought, well, maybe it was just a mistake on my plate, so I looked at my sister’s plate and her eggs were exactly the same.  GROSS!  >.>  Of course, I didn’t send the eggs back to the kitchen…  I never send anything back to the kitchen out of fear of what happens back there.  (Has everyone seen “Waiting”?)

I liked the French Toast, they were pretty good.  :D  A little too much butter on top though.  >.>

The servers at the restaurant were very friendly, however the owner (the person who collects the money) was not so friendly.  Instead of handing the credit card back to the customer, he pretty much throws it down on the counter as if he’s angry at something.  I don’t know if this was just our experience at the restaurant, maybe the guy was having a bad day.  In my view, it doesn’t matter how bad of a day you’re having, you shouldn’t take it out on your paying customers.  :P

I’m going to be putting this place in my “In-Betweens” category…  Maybe some day I’ll go back and try it again.
