International Kabob House – San Jose, CA

Due to a craving for Mediterranean food, my friend and I visited this restaurant on Saturday for lunch.  Although the restaurant was not crowded when we arrived, we were lured into the doors by the wonderful smell of kabobs roasting on the grill.  We decided to order a couple appetizers to share (and more importantly to taste), and coincidentally both ordered an entree featuring lamb.

For our appetizers we ordered Hummus (served w/ pita bread) and Zucchini Chips.  The hummus was amazing, my friend supremely enjoyed her food (minus the olive on top).  My zucchini chips were sinfully nom.  I know they have fried zucchini at Carl’s Jr., but these babies were infinitely better.  The zucchini slices were extra thin, which made them extremely crispy and crunchy.  The chips had just the right amount of crunch (not so much crunch that it cuts up the roof of your mouth :P ), and tasted good with or without the skordalia dip.  I was in heaven!  I despise zucchini chips that are too thick as that causes the zucchini to be soggy in the middle (boooo!).

When our entrees arrived we had extremely high expectations and were practically drooling over the deliciousness of our appetizers.  I ordered a Lamb Shawerma, which is basically a flatbread wrap with slow roasted lamb, tomatoes, marinated red cabbage, lettuce, and herbs.  The wrap was sliced into two sections, both of which were HUGE!  There was vinaigrette tossed salad on the side.  My friend ordered the Lamb Pita served with fries (garlic and feta cheese fries!).  The lamb pita was open faced, and you could see all the ingredients they put on top.  I was extremely satisfied as all their vegetable ingredients looked fresh and crisp (nothing wilty or brown).

My lamb shawerma was super duper NOM.  The marinated cabbage offered a sort of tart taste to the full flavored roasted lamb; the lettuce, herbs, and tomatoes gave the wrap a fresh crisp texture when biting into it.  I seriously felt like I could not put my food down, and in the end I inhaled the whole thing rather quickly.  Sometimes I can be a little concerned about ordering lamb in a restaurant, this hesitation is due to the fact that lamb can have a sort of weird taste if not prepared correctly.  I was extremely happy to find that the lamb was prepared well, it was absolutely fantastic.

I am definitely going to be recommending this restaurant to anyone that enjoys Mediterranean food.
