Hot Pot! – Milpitas, CA

One of my favorite meals..  ever.  The way it works is that you cook the food right there at the table where you are sitting.  Typically you’ll receive a pot of soup base on top of a portable stove, and then all the items you want in raw form.  Raw beef slices, pork, chicken, fish fillet, vegetables, tofu, noodles, etc.

The restaurant we went to last night features an all-you-can-eat hot pot meal, where you order as much as you want provided that you finish all the food (extra $6 charge if you don’t).  The food quality isn’t top notch, I found that it was a bit unrefined, but its not too shabby.  I was a bit surprised to find “luncheon meat” on the menu, I have not seen that anywhere else.  Several kinds of soup bases were available, anything from the normal “Chicken Soup” base to “Preserved Egg & Cilantro”, or even “Kimchi Soup” were on the menu.  I ordered the Chicken Soup, just because I really like to taste my food as it is and not get distracted with so many extra flavors.  Yeah, I’m pretty plain when it comes to eating.

They also offered a couple of different “appetizers” on their menu, I ordered the “Fried Tofu” which came with a garlic soy sauce dipping sauce on the side.  Pretty good, the tofu was crispity crunchity on the outside, but soft on the side.  Lemme tell ya, the garlic soy sauce really added the finishing touch.  NOM!

Below are some photos I took before digging in, I apologize for the photo quality as they were taken via cell phone…  am in the process of procuring a real digital camera for future photos.  :D

Chicken Parmesan Ciabatta Sandwich – Milpitas, CA

So, a couple weeks ago (1/26/2010) I went out to dinner with my sister to a restaurant where we are almost always guaranteed bad service.  The servers are negligent, mildly rude, and severely unhelpful.  Half the time it takes us at least 15 minutes to get a server to even come to our table (this restaurant is a seat yourself type of deal).  I chose to try something new, the Chicken Parmesan Ciabatta sandwich.  Below are a couple pictures of what the food looked like when I received it.

Despite the negative service, this sandwich was actually quite NOM.  The bread is a tad on the dry side, but the chicken was moist and flavorful.  The provolone cheese was absolutely awesome!  :D  One thing I have to say though, the Caesar salad that came with it was kind of wilty looking…  a definite no-no in my book.  If you’re going to provide a salad, you better make damn sure that your salad is fresh.

My sister also ordered a-excuse me, several Midori Sours, also pictured below.  I believe she said that they were extra sour that day…  >.>

My primary Happys :D

As this blog is mainly going to be about things that make me happy, I believe it would be prudent to list the main topics of my site that I would like to start with.

  1. Food & Drink (Noms)
  2. Gaming (Aion)
  3. Travelling (Wandering)
  4. Arts & Crafts (Arrrt!)
